A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS
I am my own guinea pig!

In 2022, I was fortunate enough to participate in a groundbreaking study on dyslexia called Brainlens. This study involved taking MRIs of my brain while asking me questions to scan brain activity, and I'm proud to have contributed to such important research.
It was a really great experience and introduced me to the science of dyslexia. Here are some photos of my brain! It was really interesting to learn that dyslexia is a real neurological disorder that often comes with decreased grey matter and increased white matter. Grey matter is a little like a gas station and white matter is like the high way that connects those pitstops of knowledge.
I think dyslexia is a great example for underdogs where a deficit in my grey matter led to more development of my white matter. I probably wouldn't be as curious as I am about things, if it wasn't for my dyslexia!
This year, I was lucky again to participate in the Stanford University Reading Research Program at the Center for Education Research (CERES). This study was different because it did not involve brain scans but instead had me do eye tracking and reading games. I also got some pretty cute erasers and pens and a gift card which I plan to buy lots of Frappucinos with!
